Awaiting 2012 prices from the hotel.
In Morana, in the heart of Galicia, is this 16th century manor house which has been faithfully restored and is now a charming small hotel with just 13 rooms. The property is surrounded by an old stone wall and has 40,000 square metres of garden and groves with 2 impressive horreos (central fireplace), a keep, a dovecot (dove's nests) and a chapel. Within this extensive property there are ideal spots for relaxed conversation, reading or walking. The traditions of the region, and a great part of its artistic and historical heritage revolve around Santiago de Compostela (38 km. away). The main dining room is in the gallery leading from the main house to the chapel, with large windows on both sides giving a magnificent panoramic view of the estate. On the house's upper level is the current gallery. The old stables of the estate have been completely refurbished and converted into wonderful guest rooms, each of which is named after a woman married to a male member of the Varela family, the owners since the 16th century. The rooms are decorated in warm colours and have full ensuite bathrooms, telephone and television.

Our Feedback
Rating: Excellent “Staff medmbers were very helpful and accomodating. Setting was beautiful. Would highly recommend.” Rating: Excellent “Excellent in every way.” Rating: Average “Liked: The setting and the "soul" of the hotel itself are its attraction. It is a peaceful oasis with a connection to the land and its place. Didn't Like: The facility itself - the grounds, the structure, the public spaces and the rooms, are tired and badly in need of investment; the hotel management is shared between an older generation, itself tired, and a younger generation with no sense of hospitality or service; they simply are not interested. Finally, the hotel is quite remote and does not serve those - Americans in particular - looking for a base to see and sample all of Galicia; rather it should be marketed as a local oasis, a place of esquisite repose, which it is (or could be). Finally, the kitchen is, to be kind, challenged and, given the lack of local alternatives, a problem: food is bland and poorly prepared; served cold. We had planned three days and left after one.”
