This lovely ten-roomed hotel, in a stone house originally built in the sixteenth century, is located in the area known as the Oriental of Cantabria in the village of Mentera. Between the sea and the mountains and next to the Parque Collados del Ason, it is only twenty minutes from the beaches of Laredo and less than fifty minutes drive to Bilbao. Each of the ten rooms (ensuite of course) is spacious and charmingly decorated in the theme of various country and cultural styles, for example, Aire Oriental, Aire Colonial, Aire Etnico, Aire Ingles. All the rooms are doubles and are equipped with full bathroom, television, and heating, and some rooms have terrace or balcony. There is a big fireplace in the friendly, cosy lounge and there are terraces and a porch surrounding the house. The beautiful gardens are a perfect place to stroll or relax, and in the renovated restaurant with wonderful views, a menu with local and regional specialities is offered.

Notes All sorts of outdoor activities are possible from this location, including fishing, horseriding, canoeing, water sports, Cuevas rupestres de Covalanas, en Ramales de la Victoria o el Santuario de la Bien Aparecida, patrona de Cantabria en el municipio cercano de Ampuero. Visit the Altamira caves in Santillana del Mar, the city of Santander and the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao. Ryan Air flys from the UK (Stansted airport) to Santander airport. Brittany Ferries sails from Plymouth to Santander twice a week, Wednesdays and Sundays. P and O Ferries offers sailings from Portsmouth to Bilbao.
