This unusual hotel/winery opened in December 2006 and is easily one of our favourite places to stay. To say it is classy is an understatement. Situated at the foot of the Montserrat massif in Catalonia, the hotel is in a lovely country house located on the top of a hill overlooking the vineyards. One could imagine oneself in Tuscany with the rich terracotta finish on the building and the vineyards stretched below. It is a luxurious venue, perfect for those interested in great food and wine, and and for those who just want to relax and enjoy the new spa and wellness centre. Enotourism (wine resorts) are becoming particularly popular in this area and on the Can Bonastre estate, which is situated in the Penedes Denomination of Origin zone, one can become thoroughy educated about the growing, bottling and tasting of wine. There are ten double rooms and two suites at Can Bonastre decorated in relaxing neutral colours and with comfortable furniture. The suites are very spacious with a fireplace and an espresso machine (and this is the only room type that can include an extra bed). The double rooms are unusual, many with huge windows, and with wonderful white linens, leather chairs and wood floors. The bathrooms are unique, enclosed within a frosted glass cube - and have huge showers. In the wellness centre there is an indoor heated pool with various water massage treatements, sauna, massage room, recreational shower. There is also an outdoor pool a little walk from the house. The restaurant offers gourmet dining with, of course, exceptional wines. There is a 'fast' lunch and a gastronomic tasting menu at night. There is also a tapas bar in a separate restaurant across from the main building. The landscaping at Can Bonastre is exceptional. Wandering around the garden is a holiday in itself, and there is a walk to the nearby town of Masquefa through the vineyards (although Masquefa isn't very interesting).
