Cal Llop (the Wolf's Den) is a unique hotel in Gratallops in the Priorat region - where ancient stone, wood and iron are mixed with the latest of modern design and technologies. The building, on two floors, was originally built in the thirteenth century (or so history tells us) and was rebuilt at the end of the eighteenth century. Double rooms and comfortable suites are quiet and outward-facing, full of natural light, and have telephone, plasma tv and dvd, internet access and wonderful bathrooms, all with shower (no baths). There is a duplex room on the third floor (bedroom on one level and bathroom on another). Each room is different, incorporating a mixture of old and new in design and decoration. Some of the rooms are south-facing, decorated in natural blues and ochres, with balconies overlooking the landscape. Other rooms have views over the mountains and the Ermita de la Consolacio. The stables have been converted into a lovely little restaurant serving regional cusine. There is a small terrace where you can enjoy an evening drink before dinner. Priorat is an important wine-growing area and this is a perfect base from which to explore the villages and wineries close by. The hotel can arrange winetasting with advance notice. Parking is on the street anywhere in the village. The drive up to the inn is quite steep and narrow - you might find it easier to park at the entrance to the village and walk up the hill.
