Awaiting 2012 prices from the hotel.
The Bajo el Cejo in El Berro, Murcia (in one of the most desirable locations in Sierra Espuña) is of significant historic interest. The upper building was originally used by charcoal makers, some of the first settlers in El Berro, and the lower building was a water mill. Both buildings are set amongst picturesque rock formations and striking natural features. These historic buildings have been charmingly renovated using traditional construction methods with great respect for their environment and the soothing sounds of the Fuente del Chorrico flowing by makes this a tranquil, magical place. The hotel's interiors incorporate clay, metal, wood and glass – comfortingly natural materials that are evident throughout the renovation, and local artists’ works add a welcoming and colourful touch. The hotel has ten double rooms and three suites all with underfloor heating, airconditioning, internet access and TV, with ensuite bathrooms. The suites also have a jacuzzi and private terrace. The reception area has comfortable sofas and a fireplace. There is an outdoor swimming pool which is tastefully integrated in the beautiful surroundings, with various terraces from which to admire the impressive countryside (open only in season). There is also a private parking area. The inn serves only breakfast but there are some great little local restaurants nearby.

Notes Murcia is in the south east corner of Spain with Alicante province to the north, Albacete to the west, and Almeria to the south. Sierra Espuña is a mountain range of more than 25,000 hectares in the centre of the region of Murcia in between the two valleys of the Guadalentin and Pliego rivers. Espuña is a sparsely populated, forested mountainous area in which you will find small villages and country houses in rural settings. It is one of the most accessible areas of outstanding natural beauty in Murcia. In this area, you can also explore interesting tiny towns such as Aledo, Alhama de Murcia, Pliego, Mula and Totana as well as villages such as Santa Leocadia, El Purgatorio, El Berro, Gebas and Casas Nuevas. See the amazing white moonscapes of ‘los Barrancos de Gebas’, with its spectacular reservoir in ‘la rambla de Algericas’. Spectacular areas such as el Valle del Leyva, with its impressive steep rock cliffs, are favourites with climbers near and far. The snowhouses – ‘pozos de la nieve’ in the highest part of the mountains, were ancient ice factories. El Berro, a village of just 100 inhabitants, situated at 650 metres’ altitude, is in Sierra Espuña and still functions according to popular local traditions. It is an ideal area for walking and other outdoor sports such as mountain biking, climbing, paragliding, canoeing, potholing and orienteering, amongst others. In the ‘parque natural’ area, you can see birds of prey.
