Begur

Begur is located between L'Estartit and Calella on the Costa Brava (Catalonia in north-eastern Spain). It is situated in the province of Girona and the district of Baix Emporda. The town encompasses other areas including Esclanyà (see the Roman remains), Sa Tuna, Aiguafreda, Aiguablava, Sa Riera and Fornells. A pretty town that boasts the remains of a sixteenth century castle coast, and has attractive cobblestone streets and some original fishermen's cottages. The area's history dates back to Roman times and possibly even further back as there are signs of ancient Iberian settlements. There are some exceptional beaches in the area including Fornells, Sa Tuna, Aiguablava, Playa Fonda, Aiguafreda and Sa Riera. It is popular with weekend visitors from Barcelona (given its proximity to the city) land gets very busy in the summer months. The old town has many restaurants, cafes and bars. There are some lovely waterfront walks from beach to beach.
