This unusual little countryside hotel, that was once a mill and the miller's house, is located in the Valley of Zamanzas, on the edge of the River Ebro. The hotel is 88 km. from Santander and 77 km. to the fascinating city of Burgos. Both of the 13th century buildings have been carefully restored using as many of the original materials as possible, and this lovely complex of oak and limestone is now a comfortable and friendly little inn. The six guest rooms are in the original miller's house, along with the dining room and the kitchen. What was once the oven is now the office, and the mill itself has been renovated so that guests can see it working. The rooms (all ensuite and non-smoking) have central heating, comfortable beds and traditional furniture. All of the rooms have two floors (duplex) with the possibility of sleeping a family with two children, and extra beds are available. There is a pleasant little dining room where you can enjoy the local products used in regional cuisine (for example, pumpkin cream, goats cheeses, quince and homemade breads). You need to reserve dinner in advance. You can have breakfast and dinner in the dining room or, in summer, in the garden. Surrounded by the countryside, this is a peaceful place to stay.
Family Information
All rooms can accommodate a family of 3 adults (with an extra bed) and a family of 4, if the 4th person is a little child. there can be an extra double bed if there are 2 small chilldren (price 25,92€ for the extra double bed for 2 children)

Javier and Varvaneya welcomed us very warmly and informally and were delightful hosts. The Posada is beautifully situated, enchanting and peaceful. All meals were excellent with good ingredients, local specialities and huge variety. We stayed for a week and there was no repetition. They have a good selection of wines and are knowledgeable and informative about them. Great care in the detail of every aspect has been taken with this excellent posada. Javier is expert on local birds and wildlife and suggested many excellent local walks in this beautiful, wild area. We cannot recommend the Posada more highly and hope we will return soon.

Landlord and Landlady are very welcoming and helpful. Wonderful rooms and furniture. The quiet garden on the bank of the Ebro.
Didn't Like:
The path from the main road to the Posada is very rough and you have to drive very carefully. The council is responsible for this bit and the Landlord hopes that the path is going to be improved next year.

Highly recommend. Quiet, peaceful, lovely. Javier and Valvanera are wonderful hosts (and cooks!), they have made a beautiful posada in a lovely setting, and for history or gristmill buffs, you can view a piece of history in action. Knowledgeable birders too. We'll be back! John and Cynthia

We LOVED the whole experience of being there. Because of our wonderful host, Javier, we were able to dine like royalty, see birds we could not have seen otherwise and enjoy the beauty and history of the entire area. Please convey to Javier and his charming co-host Valvanera our heartfelt appreciation.
