Situated in the heart of the meadows of Extremadura, this astonishing 16th century Monastery rises up with great majesty. Originally the residence of San Pedro de Alcantara, it was later converted into an infirmary for the monks of the Franciscan province and a centre of philosophical studies. The structure resembles a small village and has been sensitively restored using traditional methods. You will be instantly struck by the tranquillity of the monastery, enhanced at night when it is delicately lit. It has large, serene spaces, natural rocks in the guest rooms and natural essences to perfume the warm baths, all combined to make this a unique place. Each room is attractively furnished with fabrics, furniture, terra-cotta and stone. The restaurant, situated in the old chapel, serves excellent cuisine. The hotel is located 40 km. from Badajoz and has twenty-eight double rooms.

Our Feedback
Rating: Excellent “(No Comment)” Rating: Excellent “The was the neatest experience that my husband and I have ever had. The monestary has been rennovated by a famous opera singer who has turned an ancient place into a luxurious hotel that is filled with modern convenience and retains all of its ancient charms. We spent part of our honeymoon there and it was the most isolated, romantic place that we could have ever dreamed of. ” Rating: Very Good “(No Comment)” Rating: Very Good “Liked: Dramatic swimming pool flowing over the cliff, wonderful landscaping of the grounds with lots of little terraces. Excellent food and breakfast. Very elegant.
Room a bit monastic but spacious. No sign of chintz! Didn't Like: Nowhere to go for a hike or bike ride that we could discover, just a private field with cows.
They did not light the candles in the restaurant/chapel and we were the only people there. But it was a MOnday night....
Too many party/concert tent spaces being put up or taken down in the grounds. It felt very low season.” Rating: Good “Limited in services and swimming pool very small” Rating: Average “expensive for quality offered. Service in general poor. This is especially true for the restaurant.”
