Final payment must be in cash as this hotel does not accept credit cards.
This sunny farmhouse is situated on the south side of Mandoia hill with lovely views over the valley of Zeberio and the Gorbeia Nacional Park to the south and the hills surrounding Bilbao to the west. All of the guestrooms have en-suite bathrooms which include a hydro-massage shower, toilet, fitted washbasin and heated towel rail. On the first floor, one of the guestrooms has a double bed and the other two have twin beds with the possibilty of putting in an additional bed. On the second floor, there are double and twin guestrooms and a suite (with the possibility of an extra bed). There is wifi throughout the house. The rooms feature natural wood and stone, and are cosy and comfortable. Please tell the hotel in advance if you wish to dine there. This is a fairly isolated area, but is convenient for driving to Bilbao and would be an excellent base from which to explore the area, or to hike. The hotel does not accept credit cards - final payment must be in cash please.
Family Information
This hotel does not have any special facililties for children but they are welcome.
Meal Information
Meals (dinner) can be made upon request and they cost approx. 20 Euros per person.
Notes
Although Ametzola is only about 20 km. from the centre of Bilbao the area has not suffered from the impact of industrialisation of the 20th century ( there are no more than half a dozen workshops or industries, mainly pinewood sawmills) so the valley is like an immense park. There is a bar/restaurant Olatxu, in the hamlet of the same name, and a small supermarket in the village centre.

Beautifully renovated Basque farmhouse located in very 'real' part of Spain. The views are incredible from elevated position. Mikel, our host, was charming. He speaks excellent English, is a mine of information about the local area and produced some wonderful Basque dishes for our evening meal. The breakfast sets you up for the day. Excellent walking area.

The accommodation was of a very high standard, very welcoming and comfortable. The breafast and evening meals were excellent using good quality local ingrediants cooked in a traditional manner. They were very generous in portion size. We very much enjoyed eating and learning about the local cuisine. The wine was also excellent. The host Mikel is extremely welcoming, interesting and very helpful. We are looking forward to visiting again.

Our stay at Casa Rural Ametzola was fantastic. Both my wife and I really injoyed the great original Basque cuisine prepared by Mikel. The dinners prepared by Mikel were exciting and were a wonderful gastronomic delight. Our room was absolutly fantastic with a great view of the mountains and garden area. Mikel is such a wonderful and accomodating host. I would recommend his B&B to any one!

Lovely setting, in the country but close to Bilbao. Beautiful old farmhouse, lovingly restored. Very warm and friendly hosts. Excellent cooking! Unpretentious, extremely down-to-earth food using fresh ingredients. A cook who knows his food! Oh, and the wine was great too. He would get great reviews if he had a restaurant in London!

Mikel, the proprietor, was absolutely wonderful, very interesting and helpful and an excellent cook. We ate dinner twice there during our stay and the food was some of the best we had on our trip. The breakfasts Mikel serves were excellent, the WIFI was the most reliable and best we had the entire two weeks we were in Europe. And it was absolutely stunning scenery.

Michel is the perfect host! A charming gentleman, who made us feel very at home in his fantastic home/inn. The food was simple but delicious and the accommodation was charming and of the highest standard. We enjoyed our stay so much that we cannot wait to visit him again and have recommended him to our friends and family. A great finale to a very good holiday in Spain. Bob & Ann Bates

The way the farmhouse that forms the hotel has been refurbished and decorated - It is a high quality refurbishment, but the character of the building has been retained. The hotel manager is welcoming and very accommodating. The food is excellent, though if you are vegetarian you'd best give some prior warning as you get what you're given. It's quiet and I got an excellent night's sleep.
