When |
Spring and early fall offer an agreeable climate, and are the best times to avoid the crowds of summer tourists. Late fall and winter can be somewhat stormy in Valencia. March 19th sees the Fallas de San Jose, a festival which celebrates the beginning of spring. The America’s Cup Regatta, a major event in the sailing world, is now a major attraction. At the last event there was hardly a room to be had in the city in April, June and July. The next event will be in 2009 – for which you definitely have to book accommodation early. Note that hotel prices can increase significantly when there are major events taking place in the city. |

Why |
Valencia, originally founded by the Romans and later occupied by the Moors, offers a wonderful historic quarter in the Barrio del Carmen. Most of the architecture in the Barrio is from the period immediately following the reconquest. However, not all of Valencia is rooted in the ancient past, and the modern style of the City of Arts and Sciences, built on the old bed of the diverted Turia river, offers an alternative. There are also many beaches and outdoor activities possible. |
