When |
The weather is generally mild year-round but, because of the proximity to the mountains, it is not unusual to get rainy, foggy days in the autumn and winter and even, occasionally, in summer. |
|
Why |
A charming town, with its almond and olive trees and miradors. One of its claim to fame relates to Chopin, who stayed at the Carthusian monastery with George Sand in 1838-39. It was the unexpected beginning of the area’s tourist development. The monastery is a popular place to visit, with the cells where these famous inmates stayed, and the piano used and manuscripts created on display. The monastery church also hosts the Municipal Museum with its small collection of modern art by Picasso, Miro and Francis Bacon. The town is an excellent base from which to enjoy hikes and walks. |
