Click to make a request for this hotel Click to view contact information Click to view larger photos for this hotel In the historical heart of Altafulla in Tarragona, is this ancient convent constructed in 1732 (Big Cloisters would be an approximate translation of the name). The skilfull restoration has saved many of the original features - the old balconies, the arches and original iron and woodwork - and the rooms have been decorated in the fresh, bright colours from which they have been named, Acero Dulce, Ocre Campo, Tierra Africa, Carbon Piedra. The bathrooms are wonderfully modern but use traditional materials in their decoration. The building has an interior courtyard, a swimming pool, terrace with solarium and jacuzzi and, of course, beautiful vistas of the Mediterranean and the castles of Tamariz and Altafulla. The restaurant is in the old heart of the convent and offers a creative Mediterranean cuisine, with a special tasting menu of dishes from the region (price approx. 38-40 euros). If you wish to dine at the restaurant, it is important that you make a reservation in advance. It is a popular place and is usually full. The hotel is currently building an additional nineteen rooms across the street from Gran Claustre, so there may be some construction noise during weekdays. Click to make a request for this hotel

They are vastly enlarging this hotel and the building work will continue for some time. They should offer discounts for this because you could not use the jacuzzi on the roof or the swimming pool (which was very small) because of dust & noise. The breakfast for E12 was very poor and we chose to eat down the road at the local bakery. Restaurant menu was expensive and breakfast experience put us off so we ate at excellent local restaurants. The rooms were lovely & very stylish. Altafulla is still a gem of a original Spanish resort ~ we really loved it but wouldn't choose to stay at the Gran Claustre again.
