Introduction

Where

Seville is located along the Guadalquivir, and is the capital of Spain’s southernmost autonomous region, Andalusia.  Seville is easily reached by high speed train from Madrid – a very civilized way to travel.

When

It is extremely hot in the summer months (in fact many hotels and restaurants close in August).  Easter is the most expensive time to visit Seville with hotel prices often doubling because of the Semana Santa celebrations.  We recommend Spring and Fall.  Winter is relatively quiet (except when there are events taking place), but bear in mind that many hotels and restaurants close in the winter months.  Late October and early November (in our experience) are also great times to visit.  The weather is usually still quite mild (although it can be rainy).

Why

Seville is one of the best known Spanish cities, and for good reason.  Its rich Moorish and Gothic influences are best exemplified by Seville’s Cathedral, which was built on the site of a Moorish mosque with its tower ( the Giralda).  Apart from the festivals, Seville is also a center for bullfighting, as well as  Flamenco and Tapas both of which can be experienced at a seemingly infinite number of clubs, restaurants and bars in town.  The Aires de Seville (Roman Baths) are well worth a visit.

Accommodation

We have many small hotels in Seville, mostly in the old town.  If you plan to visit around Easter, remember that you need to book months in advance.  We also have a number of special small places to stay within a 20 km. radius of Seville in some attractive Cortijos.
