Introduction

Where

Granada is at the junction of the Sierra Nevada mountains and the fertile plain of the Vega (at 630 metres above sealevel) in Andalusia in southern Spain. It is about 70km from the coast.

When

In the winter months there are lovely blue skies in the daytime, but it can get cold at night. The hot months are July and August - so we recommend visiting in the Spring and Autumn for the most comfortable weather. Keep in mind our Granada hotels are extremely busy during Semana Santa (Easter) so reserve early if you plan to stay in April.

Why

The city has a great number of attractions, the most famous being the Alhambra, which is often considered one of the ten wonders of the world. Constructed over the ages, it has magnificent palaces, fortifications and gardens and is Spain’s most-visited site. You must buy tickets (and be allocated a time for your visit) before arriving at the monument. You can buy tickets in advance from www.alhambratickets.com. No trip to Granada would be complete without a visit to the Sacromonte – a very important centre of Flamenco.

Accommodation

Many of our Granada hotels are located in the Albaicin, the old Arabic quarter located on the hill opposite the Alhambra. It is has cobblestone streets with white washed houses and is mostly a pedestrian only area. It is better not to have a car in this area of Granada but there are many public parking lots in the new town and from there you can walk or take a taxi to the hotel.
