Cultural activities: Romanesque routes, Dali museum at Figueres, Prehistoric caves at Serinya, Volcanic area, forests, Medieval centre Santa Pau, old town of Girona. Beach 45 minutes, skiing 1 hour. Once the capital of Catalunya, the town is a medieval treasure with its narrow streets and old houses. It is in the centre of a triangle between Figueres, Olot and Girona and is over 150 metres above sea level. Els Jardins de la Martana is a simple, ten-roomed small hotel located just at the foot of the bridge to the ancient town (and close to the small municipal parking lot). The rooms are comfortable and spacious (and all have complete bathrooms). There is a friendly laid-back feel to this inn. The entrance is subtle - just a large doorway with a small sign, but after climbing the stairs to the reception area, the whole town is laid out in front of you, viewed over the River Fluvia. Four rooms have a balcony and there is a terrace where breakfast may be taken. Only breakfast is served but there are many restaurants just over the bridge (2 minutes walk). There is no swimming pool or other leisure activities so this is not a suitable venue for children. For those who like skiing in the winter there are a number of ski resorts close by. Note that there is a traffic bridge fairly close to the hotel so there can be some traffic noise at busy times. Click to make a request for this hotel

I think this hotel deserves a MUCH higher rating. The room was large and comfortable, the staff was very pleasant and helpful, the grounds were beautiful, and the location was excellent.
