When |
Summer temperatures (July and August) can reach more than 40 °C, while in winter it rarely falls below 5 °C. Spring and Fall are the most comfortable times to visit. May is a wonderful time to visit Cordoba because there are so many festivals taking place. Las Cruces de Mayo takes place on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of May (which is Santa Cruz day) and the local people compete for the price for the best flower decorated cross. The Patio contest also takes place in May, on the 4th to 16th, May, in which home-owners compete for the prize awarded to the most beautifully decorated patio. The summer feria takes place during the last week in May at the municipal fair ground on the north bank of the River Guadalquivir. |

Why |
Cordoba has some wonderful ancient buildings. The Mezquita dates back to the 10th century, and now can be visited throughout the year for 6 Euro entrance fee. The approach is via the Patio de los Naranjos, a classic Islamic courtyard which preserves both its orange trees and fountains. Visit the Alcazar – the walled garden built by the Christians in 1328. Other interesting buildings include the Calahorra Fort, originally built by the Arabs and which guards the Roman Bridge, on the far side of the river from the Mezquita, and the ancient Jewish Synagogue, now a museum. Cordoba's medieval quarter, La Juderia, is a labyrinth of winding, narrow streets, shady flower-filled courtyards and picturesque squares such as La Plaza del Potro contest. |
