Visitors passing through León who experience the towns and traditions of the Maragatería—perhaps even sampling traditional “maragato” stew—will likely suspect that the region offers much more to be savoured and experienced if one takes enough time. Savvy travellers make their way to Luyego, where the plains of Leon meet the mountainous silhouette of the Teleno (2190 m), to stay in this beautiful country hotel. Its two Maragata structures along with the central courtyard that unites them represent a unique place to delight in the local history and rich culture of the region. The architecture tastefully brings together all of the elements that typify the region, such as granite ashlars, terracotta floor tiles, exposed wooden beams, wooden windows and large solid-wood doors, and wrought iron throughout. Each of the nine rooms is uniquely decorated with fine wood on floors and ceilings, rustic furniture and exposed brickwork. After settling into this lovely hotel, enjoying the local cuisine is must (evening meals approximately 22 euros).
