Cadiz is in southwestern Andalusia, on the Atlantic coast of the Costa de la Luz.

When

Carnival in Cadiz is one of the livliest in Spain, famous for its amusing and creative figurines and satirical song groups.  Carnival is centred around Shrove Tuesday (usually late February or early March).  The weather in Cadiz is best in spring and fall. It can be scorching  in the summer and moderate but rainy in the winter. 

Why

Cadiz  is a fascinating town, both for its extraordinary location (on a peninsula jutting out into the bay and surrounded almost entirely by water) and its old charming centre, full of interesting streets and squares, with Moorish buildings that reflect its history as a centre of international trade. A tour of the town should include visiting the cathedral and the old town churches,  La Santa Cueva (home to several paintings by Goya) and Casa del Almirante and Casa de las Cadenas,  There is a lovely walk along the headland, through the old town and parks.
