Lots of leisure and outdoor sports are possible. You can rent mountain bikes, watch birds, hike, tour the Romanesque churches and cultural routes, climbing, caving, water sports, fishing. Learn Spanish (ask us about packages including full board and courses) There is a train station in Pedrosa, 300 meters from the house. However, there is only one train a day, it leaves the FEVE station (narrow guage railway) in Bilbao at 14.35 and arrives in Pedrosa at 16.50 (everyday). The line is the Bilbao-Leon, unlike many other trains in Spain it is usually punctual. This is not the same station as the main RENFE station, however it is near in the centre of Bilbao. The cost is about 5 euros a single ticket (returns are not sold). The return train from Pedrosa to Bilbao leaves at 20.30 everyday.

Casa La Engana
 
This attractive, galleried, stone guesthouse in the northern province of Burgos has just six double rooms (all ensuite of course), a lovely dining room, a large stone-walled garden with an orchard a vegetable garden, and - for those who want to improve their Spanish - the possibility of excellent language courses. Casa La Engana is the result of hard work and dedication of the two energetic owners, Duncan and Mila, who had the vision to see the wonderful possibilities of this 1912 Cantabrian limestone and sandstone house. This is an excellent base from which to explore the local surroundings and is 93 km. from Burgos, 85 km. from Santander and 90 km. from Bilbao. Pedrosa is a small mountain village with just 200 inhabitants with good access by road and via the narrow gauge reailway which connects it with Bilbao. There are some fine beaches on the North coast, about an hour's drive through the Cantabrian mountains. The cuisine is international, using organic products wherever possible, and vegetarian meals are possible. The owners speak English, Spanish, French, Italian and German and will help you to plan your excursions.

Top place with friendly hosts and great rooms. Very comfortable.
Shame that my original booking included breakfast and yet when we arrived we were told this was not the case.
