Prado Mayor

El Prado Mayor, built in the 16th century and exquisitely restored, is a charming rural hotel situated in the heart of the picturesque Merindades Valley. This is a solid house of stone and wood with an impressive façade displaying the original archway and coat of arms. Access to the hotel is through a wooden gate which leads you to a square garden and a columned terrace, a perfect place to have breakfast in the summer. At the rear of the house there is a vegetable garden where organic products are grown for the enjoyment of the guests. The interiors are in harmony with the architecture of the building, each room being stylishly furnished with antique furniture, quality cotton sheets, colourful woolen blankets and dried flowers. The bathrooms are also attractively furnished with antiques. There is a glass covered terrace on the first floor overlooking the valley and the village. Breakfast is a selection of home-made cakes, biscuits, local bread, assorted fruit, home-made jams, coffee or tea, milk from the local dairy, etc. Meals are prepared with fresh organic food. This is a perfect base for exploring the North of Burgos and Cantabria. The inn is 70 km from Bilbao and 90 km. from Burgos, and has six double rooms. Since being featured in a prominent Spanish magazine, the small inn is often full at weekends with guests from Spanish cities.
