Within easy reach of Lucainena de las Torres there are many beaches and the Cabo de Gata Natural Park with its beautiful landscapes with a wide variety of plants and birds including the exotic flamingos. Visit Sorbas, famous for its houses built right on the edge of a cliff. Illuminated at night they give the sensation of looking up at an enchanted castle. Nijar: Nearby you will find the town of Nijar famous for its pottery and traditional textile looms on which, to this day, the local residents produce blankets, rugs etc. La Alpujarra: Situated along the lower southern slopes of the snow capped Sierra Nevada, the area includes dozens of enchanting hamlets and villages nestling between green fields and chestnut forests. The melt waters from the snow form many crystal clear streams which ensure that the many soft fruit trees flourish alongside the ancient farmhouses. A great interest for British tourists would be a visit to Yegen, the village in which the writer Gerald Brennan lived during the 1920·s and which gave the inspiration for him to write South from Granada, a wonderful insight into life in what was at that time, a very isolated community. Be sure to return via Laujar and Fondor where you will be able to visit one of the local vineyards and sample the wine. Granada as a day trip is also possible from here (140 km.). The countryside is at the very doorstep of the Venta el Museo and can be explored either on foot or by bike. Some suggested expeditions include: From Lucainena to Turrillas. From Lucainena to Polopos and Rambla Honda From Lucainena de las Torres to Polopos and Rambla Honda.View the landscape from the summit of the Penon. From Lucainena to Sierra Cabrera via Cortijo La Cantona.
