Where |
Almeria is the capital of the province of Almeria, located in the southeastern corner of the Iberian peninsula, on the Mediterranean sea. West of the Sierra de Gador and northeast of the Sierra de Alhamilla. |
|
When |
Almeria has the highest hours of sunshine and lowest rainfall in Europe. The mild Almeria weather is due to the unique position of the city west of the Sierra de Gador and northeast the Sierra de Alhamilla. In winter the temperatures rarely falls below 8°C, In summer the temperature can climb to 40°C. This make Almeria and its weather one of the warmest along the Coast. If lazing on a beach if your style, then summer is perfect. For visiting cities and cultural attractions spring and fall are ideal. |
|
Why |
The provincial capital and port of Almeria is overlooked by a vast, sprawling Moorish citadel, the Alcazaba. Also well worth exploring is Almeria´s old town, full of fascinating monuments, including a cathedral with an impressive Gothic interior, a 300-year-old hospital and great tapas bars. The province of Almeria is comprised mostly of semi-arid desert and wilderness (due to the dry weather). Farms commercially growing fruit, vegetables and flower take up a good part of the coastal territory (and not always pretty with its plastic greenhouses). Andalucia´s most outstanding wildlife areas and its largest coastal reserve, the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park are in Almeria. There are some gorgeous little beaches on the Costa Almeria and it is a popular nautical sports area. |

Accommodation |
We have some lovely properties in the Agua Amarga area, both on the beaches and inland. These include small hotels within the Cabo de Gata National Park - Hotel Rodalquilar, Cortijo Los Malenos, El Tio Kiko, and La Almedra y el Gitano. The approximate distance from the town of Almeria to Aqua Amarga is 60 km. Casa Las Yeseras is a delightful mountain hotel with magnificent views, in the little white town of Bedar in the Sierra Cabrera. |
