Introduction

Where

On the East coast of Spain, on the Costa Blanca,  (about 180 km. south of Valencia) by the Mediterranean. To the south is the Costa Almeria and to the North the Costa Dorada.

When

Alicante has a mild, Mediterranean climate and is pleasant to visit year-round.  Late Spring and early Autumn are particularly pleasant and, of course, summer (but it can get crowded).

Why

Alicante is the capitol of the province of Alicante and is one of the most well-known towns on the Costa Blanca.  Costa Blanca describes the white beaches stretching for miles along the coast, perfect for those who love the sea and beach life.  This is a busy cosmopolitan town, with lots of people, shopping, restaurants and activities.  There are several historic sites ( cathedrals, churches, old buildings, the Castillo de Santa Barbara – a huge medieaval fortress), a busy harbor, an extensive shopping area.   The Alicante airport is one of the biggest for incoming charter flights in Spain. There is a regular ferry service to the Balearic Islands from here.

Accommodation

We have chosen a number of small, special inns in the mountains and countryside around Alicante rather than in the busy centre.  Day trips to the town are possible from any of these inns.
