Pesqueria del Tambre

This most unusual small hotel (16 fascinating rooms) is in a group of 5 stone houses in what was once the village around a Power Station on the river Tambre. Originally the village supplied fish and seafood to the monastery of Toxosoutos in San Xusto (built in 1132), five kilometres away, and in the late eighteen hundreds a village grew around a Power Station designed by Spanish Modernist architect Antonio Palacios. The five stone houses have been imaginatively transformed into a delightful small hotel in five separate buildings -- Reception/Dining building; Casa del Jefe; Camara de Carga; Casa de los Maestros and Escuela de Cornoas. The rooms have every possible comfort: telephone, television, full bathrooms, (those on the ground floor have terraces), and independent entrances making them very private. They are beautifully decorated with teak furniture, soft furnishings, natural linens, and elegant leather. Breakfast and dinner are served in the classic dining room in the Reception building. Set in quiet countryside and by the river, it provides a wonderfully relaxing location and and an excellent base from which to explore the area. The hotel is quite a ways from tourist sites but it is great for a relaxing getaway in the country.
