Casa Julio Verne is a typically Andalucian townhouse with a contemporary feel, lovingly restored. Located in San Roque, founded in 1704 by the Gibraltarians who chose to leave the Rock when it was colonised by the British, this picturesque Andalucian town is still known as the City of Gibraltar in Exile. The old quarter is charming and has a village feel. There are numerous tapas bars and restaurants, a bullring, which has its own museum (and is one of the oldest in Andalucia) and there are carnivals, ferias and an impressive Easter procession. The inn has a delightful cool and fragrant central courtyard and a Turkish hamman. Help yourself to a drink from the bar and put your feet up in the spacious guest lounge, where you can listen to a CD or watch a film on satellite TV. Curl up with a book or write an email home in the internet room. Soak up the sun and the exquisite views of Gibraltar and Morocco on the roof terrace by day, or eat alfresco as night falls.
